Junior year SUCKS! I had heard how junior year is the hardest year in high school, but you don't know how hard until you live thru it. Colleen's class load was tough and she had to actually study and do lots and lots of homework. I totally understand why kids check out at this age, if you don't have a great support system and an inner desire to succeed you just quit. I am proud of Colleen for sticking with it and actually getting to see that her strengths are projects and oral presentations. I do believe this year also taught her she will not major in any subject that requires an equation.
On top of academic struggles she dealt with multiple friend issues. She has learned trust is such a fragile thing. I feel bad that her faith in people has been shattered, but so proud that she picks herself up and marches on. She seems to have the mantra of "God has a plan and I just need to go with it." Volleyball has had its high and lows this year, but she is still loves it and wants to continue. We were lucky she was a bit of a homebody this year and got to spend lots of time telling her how to behave.
I feel she is ready to fly and that this senior year we will see her practicing her flying skills before she soars off good.
