Shout out to Conlan

FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sobczak got himself in shape | FLS Varsity: HS Sports

Sophomore Conlan Beaver has replaced Mihota.
“Conlan’s stepped up a lot,” Sobczak said. “Everything he lacks in strength and experience he makes up for with aggression. He’s very, very aggressive.”

Not sure that is how I want my angel bait described  but I am so excited for him to be on such a great offensive line, and that he has the respect of the seniors.

Donavan

Donavan finished the season out strong starting right tackle and defensive tackle. He was one of only 3 7th graders that got to play.  The team didn't do so well but he learned a lot and is ready for next year.

Mother like Son

Conlan came home said he talked to the athletic trainer about his chest pains.  He said she told him he had a bruised scrotum.
I am thinking how did she know his balls were bruised, plus how did that happen when he got hit in the chest?
Donavan asked " How did you hurt your balls?"
Conlan starts yelling at him that it is his chest not his balls.
We then he realized he meant  sternum not scrotum.  Of course he got me laughing so hard that I was unable to pronounce it correctly either.

Special Teams

Conlan started out the season on NO special teams. Friday night he was on every one but punt return.  The coach yelled at him for being too slow on kick off..Conlan said what part of me not being 5'8" and running a 40 in 4 seconds did you not notice?  Conlan did have an amazing block on an extra point try!

Undefeated for the Regular Season 10-0

Concussion

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Panthers, ’Hawks advance | FLS Varsity: HS Sports

Two weeks ago Colleen got hit in the face with a volleyball.  The next night she played a game and had a nasty fall.  She became extremely moody and had a severe headache.  She went to the athletic trainer and failed her concussion test.  She was told to have complete rest for 3 days and should be good by Monday.  Over the weekend she continued to have headaches and when she went to school on Monday she had no idea what was going on in her math class said it was completely foreign to her.  The doctor put her on complete rest for the week.  Between hearing every horror concussion story and having Colleen unable to carry on a conversation things were scary for a few days.  She started coming alive at the end of the week and passed her concussion test and her mind started being clearer.  Yesterday was a good day at school and even though she wasn't allowed to play volleyball.  She got to practice today and tomorrow is a game, but more importantly Math class.  We are praying she just keeps going strong!

Bears and more Bears

Donavan and I plus two other hikers came across a momma bear with her three cubs right on the edge of the trail.  They had no intentions of moving.  We talked thinking that would move them, and then we moved in closer and the momma bear swatted her cubs and then growled at us.  We kindly back up and sat and waited them out.  It was close to 30 minutes before they moved down the mountain.  A few minutes later Conlan came looking for us and on our way down the mountain was another bear with her three cubs.  We took some more pics.  Conlan found the perfect campsite except for the two bears hanging out there, so we walked up a little and decided that was a good place.  Lo and behold there were another two bears. Then I noticed there was another bear on the other side of us.  13 Bears in a 20 minute time period is 12 too many bears for this momma and her boy cubs.  We walked north for a little bit bf we set up camp.  The boys did a great job removing ALL food from out site and putting it up in a tree way way down the hill.  It was an experience to see them out in the wild and one that I am sure we will not see again anytime soon.
