Sad News

One of the moms at our elementary school, who was on the PTO board with me, commited suicide Tuesday night. She has a wonderful husband and twin girls in first grade. Apparently she had been suffering from depression but no one, except her husband knew how serious it had become. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers. I did not know her well, but I have close friends who were close to her. Beth was a wonderful person, highly creative and a terrific mom to her two girls. This has taken everyone by surprise, it is such a hard concept to understand why anyone would do such a devastating act.

Week in NJ

The Beaver family went to NJ on Sunday. We not only got to see Nicloas but also my mom, who we had not seen since last April. Nicolas is a very sweet little baby boy. I spent hours just watching his little mouth move in many different shapes. It was COLD in the Jers, so the kids didn't get to get out much. Ray took the kids back home with him on Tuesday and left me. I had a nice relaxing time. It was great spending time with my mother. She is looking good with her new gray hair. I can't forget about Brooke and Ellie. Brooke is very interested in science and gave me many facts on black holes and the electrons. Ellie one night was busy making a dinosaur packet for her whole class. She got pictures and puzzles off the Internet. She did this on her own accord. Her and Brooke are both extremely creative, a trait my children were not blessed with in their brains. I was sorry I couldn't watch them play basketball today.
I took the train home. Ray met me in DC and we had a nice lunch and then took a walk around the capitol. When I got home life it hard. Colleen and I went to the college to watch Danny swim, and when that was over I took her to swim practice. I picked up the boys and then we had a few errands to run. Today we had three basketball games and we were able to go to all three. Which is nice but it also makes for a long day. Conlan's team is still losing, but Conlan plays great defense. A little too good since he got four fouls. Colleen's team won. Donavan's age group doesn't keep score, but I think they won. He scored his two points.
Hopefully I will get my pics downloaded and you can see NJ pictures.
Also congratulations to Andrew, he made his first Communion today!

Basketball

The boys had their first game today. Conlan's team lost 12-4. Good news was Conlan scored the only 4 points. It looks like their team is going to have a hard time this season. Conlan did a great job. He worked very hard on defense. The other team scored 6 points when Conlan was on the bench taking a rest. Donavan's team played and won 14-12. Donavan scored 2 points. The other team had a boy that was almost a head taller than Donavan. Everytime D had the ball that boy was all over him. Donavan also played very well.

MY friend Amanda was there with her 3 month old twins, so I got sidetracked a bit wasn't always paying close attention. Plus The boys were playing at the same time so I had to sit in the middle of the gym and watch both games.
Tomorrow we head to NJ to see Nicolas. We hare very excited. The kids are also excited about seeing their grandma, since they haven't seen her in almost a year.
Speaking of which my parents has been married 45 years today and Ray's sister Ginny and her hubby have been married for 15. Congratulations!

Medical updates...Conlan went to the hand specialist to be told not to worry about his cyst as long as it wasn't causing him trouble. YEAH! Donavan this week had an infected growth coming out of his rib cage. The doctor thinks it might be an accessory nipple, but we go to the pediatric surgeon in Richmond on the 28th. Never a dull minute in the Beaver household!

Swimming

We are also in the middle of swim season. Here are some pics of D-man and his routine at swim meets.

Diving into the water

Colleen swam at a YMCA meet at the University of Maryland. Their pool is one of the best on the East Coast. The video is of her swimming the breaststroke.

They have three pools in one!

Getting ready for the relay.

Basketball

Colleen had a very exciting game on Monday night. It went into overtime. I thought I was going to have a heart attack before it was over. They ended up winning, so they are 2-1 now. Their team is a scrappy bunch of girls. I wouldn't want to get into a cat fight with any of them.

Crazy Week

I haven't been a very good blogger this last week. I am trying to get back into the go go world.
Monday- Rested up from the weekend of swimming. Colleen did well. She got two new A times and has qualified for her JO cuts in the 50 Breast. Conlan and Donavan had their first basketball practice. Ray is coaching D's team. Donavan claimed he is the best one on his team. Conlan also thinks he is one of the better players on his team.

Tuesday- I had a day about me. Went to the dentist, got my haircut, had lunch with two of my buddies. We also had D-man's teacher conference. According to his teacher is he is working above grade level in reading and math. She also thinks he causes no trouble:) He has her charmed with his angelic smile.

Wednesday- Conlan has a cyst in his hand, so he went to the doctor to have it checked. He is sure it is a ganglion cyst, but we have to go to the hand specialist on the 14th. Colleen had her first basketball game. It was not pretty. Colleen did play well scored 40 % of the points but that is not saying much since the team only scored 10 total. The same girls are playing together, but they have a new coach and he didn't know what rotation to put them in and it got us beat the last couple of minutes of the game.

Thursday- I subbed at Courtland High again. I was in the PE department. It was fun. I got paid to watch kids play basketball.

Friday- I subbed again for the PE teacher, and our evening wasn't so bad. Colleen had basketball practice and both boys were playing with friends.

Saturday- The boys had b-ball practice and Colleen had a game. This game went much better. The girls won 23-16. Colleen said she scored 9 points. I thought she scored 7. She played an excellent game, she is a great defensive player and if she can ever make the baskets under the goal she will be FANTASTIC> there is another girl on the team that is Colleen's height that is an excellent player. They play so well together, it is a shame they don't go to the same middle schools.

Sunday- Swim meet ( yes we still are swimming in all this bball playing) Conlan had his best meet he has had in awhile. Donavan also dropped time in his events. Colleen added a bit to her times but came out of the meet with 2 first, a second, and a third, so she wasn't too bummed!
Donavan was very upset about the Colts losing, crying nonstop for a good 30 minutes. The Cowboys losing didn't seem to upset him too much. Conlan wants the Packers and Chargers to be in the Super Bowl.

Nicolas is a cutie!

Introducing Nicolas Marc Farine Devos

NICHOLAS IS HERE!

He weighed 9lbs and 4ozs. Ann said he is perfect and very sweet! Pics coming soon!

Waiting for Nicholas!

Ann is in the hospital being induced, but it isn't going very fast.

Meanwhile, the boys and I went to a swim meet this morning. Donavan did very well, even pulled out 2nd in the 25 breast stroke for 8 and under. Conlan was feeling slow today and that apparently made him swim slow. They were both in the same relay. Conlan was upset b/c D-man is just 7 and the other three were 9 or 10. He doesn't see that he should be proud of D-man for being the fourth fastest boy at the meet, all he sees is his stupid brother to going to ruin their relay team. Conlan had the team in 2nd when he finished the 2nd leg and when D finished the race they were still in 2nd. Lucky for Donavan the boys were nice to him after that!
We went to Kohls to look at shoes. Apparently Conlan sense of fashion follows him into the shoe category. He knew actually what shoes he wanted to look cool. I am praying his new b-ball shoes also fit his sister.
Colleen is swimming at the University of Maryland today. This is a championship meet for the top YMCA swimmers in the Mid-Atlantic region. Colleen worked hard just to qualify. She is trying to make her Junior Olympics cut, and hopes that this meet pushes her over to the other side. We will let you know how she does.......

Happy New Year!

Donavan with his two favorite things!
Every morning Donavan comes down the stairs wrapped in a blanket!

The last day of winter vacation, YIPPEEE! I have enjoyed staying at home and not being in go go mode, but my personality can't stand it anymore. I need to get back into my crazy routine. Tomorrow I am subbing at my old high school in my old job. Memories..... when I left Courtland I was pregnant with Conlan.

Colleen's new comforter, that Cece finds mighty nice!
