Pre Hurricane Sandy
No school today, currently it is 53 degrees, raining and very little wind. Colleen went with her dad this morning to court to get her hard copy driver's license. This storm is going to mess up the perfect sport night. Colleen's play off game is against Albermarle Co (Charlottesville) starts at 6. Conlan's JV game is also there and starts at 7:30. It was going to work out perfect, take care of a long drive and two sports in one night. I am sure now everything will be moved around, and it won't be to my liking. LOL

Varsity Boy #65
Conlan's first varsity game was too exciting. They won 59-30 beating the number one undefeated team in the district. The game secured a spot in the post season play offs. Conlan also got to play right guard with the second string players. Wahoooooo!
Tutu with sparkles
When getting ready for school today. I had picked out a teal ruffled skirt. Sierra said " I need the green tutu with sparkles." She might not have her hair combed or shoes on, but she is all about the perfect outfit.

Got to go to Lowes
Our toilet starting leaking on September 28. Apparently Ray was waiting for two things. 1. His dad to get home from his travels 2. Me to start bitching.
They started this morning. Less than an hour in to the project I hear "We need to go to Lowes." which will also probably means we need to go to lunch.

Conlan #78
Gripes
Once upon a time (before Obamacare) when I had a child screaming in the middle of the night due to an ear infection, I would take them to the ER pay my $50 bucks to have them numb the kid so we could all sleep. Last night the screaming never got bad enough that I felt the need to pay $200 to have her feel better. Why can people who don't have good insurance still go to the ER for "free" and us who pay can't afford to go?
For the record, I have never like to be told what to do. I do not mind when I am asked to do something, to be given instructions/suggestions on how it is to be carried out. BUT I do NOT like being micro managed. If you have time to check on my progress and how to do it better, then you have time to do it yourself. I know I sound like a teenager not liking how my mom tells me to do something and then stands over the top of me to make sure I do it right. Hopefully this experience was to help me not to micro manage my kids.

THE PERFECT PARENT
A good friend last night was given the advice:
"God is the perfect parent and all his kids mess up from time to time."
Takes the pressure off from trying to be that perfect mom. Not that I have ever tried to be perfect, my kids are lucky to get fed dinner much less have the nutritious snack waiting for them when they walk in the door. I am not big on cleaning, clothes are not ironed and folded in drawers and I am definitely not crafty or creative. But I do pride myself on trying to always be present in their lives, and teaching them right from wrong. I have learned they will do the very activity I said they would never do, so I am prepared for complete failure on a few fronts. A woman a few years ago told me
" You don't pray that your kids won't make mistakes, you pray that the bad decisions they make will not affect their lives forever."
Being a parent is a 24/7 job and it is hard..just ask God
Disclaimer: As far as I know my kids currently have not "messed up" in the last 48 hours, so this is no reflection on their current behavior or mine;)

Good game
Colleen had a great game last night. The coach changed the rotation, so Colleen and Erica (setter) could be together. What a difference that made, hopefully they will continue to work together and give Colleen more hitting opportunities.
MASSAPONAX 3, ORANGE 0
Colleen Beaver had 14 kills and four blocks, and Jessica Lee totaled six kills and six aces for Massaponax in a 25–14, 25–14, 25–16 Commonwealth District home win.
Emily Kilpatrick added six kills and two blocks, and Mattie Lewter provided five kills and four aces for the Panthers (11–9, 6–7), who visit Colonial Forge on Tuesday.

Road Trip
Colleen and I went on a road trip and checked out UNCW and ECU. Colleen didn't like either. I liked UNCW, but didn't care for ECU. You can tell ECU puts all their money into the sports complex. It was great to get out of Fredericksburg. The boys and Sierra enjoyed their Daddy time. Donavan said "Daddy was in party mode, he let us have chips, dip and soda!"

Working on the serve
Colleen's was struggling with her serve at the beginning of the season. She even had a few games were she wasn't even allowed to serve. She had a "talk"with the coach to try and give her a chance to prove herself. She has been serving up a storm the last three games and they are getting better as the games go on.
Highlights from last night's game
MASSAPONAX 3, MOUNTAIN VIEW 0
Colleen Beaver had seven aces and five blocks, and Ashley Nimon collected six digs to help visiting Massaponax get a 25–10, 25–15, 25–17 Commonwealth District win.
Rachel Jankovits added 12 kills and nine digs, and Ashley Satterwhite doled out 21 assists for the Panthers (10–8, 5–6), who host a “Dig Pink” match against North Stafford on Thursday.
This was last Thursday
ALBEMARLE 3, MASSAPONAX 0
Colleen Beaver had six kills, four blocks and two aces for Massaponax, but visiting Albemarle earned a 25–20, 25–17, 25–19 Commonwealth District win.
Rachel Jankovits provided eight kills and six digs, while Kailyn Sonnenberg chipped in 11 digs for the Panthers (8–8, 4–6), who host Courtland on Monday.

WOW
Donavan's band teacher called today. He informed us D had made first chair for two weeks in a row. He went on about how D was a naturally talented trombone player and what an awesome kid he was and how much he was enjoying him in band.
I know he is half his trombone playing father's child, but from a mom who can't even clap on beat I am amazed he is doing so well. It is great Donavan has found something that his siblings have no interest in doing.
